TRIO is founded on the legacy of the storied Strang family; three generations of scenic artists, each a dominant, leading force in the industry.  The Strang name is synonymous with excellence in scenic design.

Three generations of Strang artists continually managed the scenic art department at Warner Bros Studios for over 77 years, from 1933 through 2010.  TRIO founder, Ed Strang, is proud to carry on and expand the family legacy.  Ed is the grandson of Verne Strang, who managed the Warner Bros Scenic Art Department from 1933-1978; Verne is known for his scenic artwork in such early films as The Maltese Falcon, The Jazz Singer, Ziegfield Follies,  The Wizard of Oz, and continuing through to The Exorcist.

Verne was followed in the Warner Bros management role by Ed’s father, Ronald Strang, who ran the department until 1989.   Ron Strang was honored by the Art Director’s Guild with the first Lifetime Achievement Award to a scenic artist for his extensive and award-winning body of work in film, television and commercial productions.  In addition to that work, Ron founded Superior Backings in the mid-eighties, the absolute go-to scenic shop for music tour backdrops; the client list is endless and includes such varied and iconic names as The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Van Halen, Bette Midler, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, John Mellencamp, The Beach Boys, Motley Crue, Britney Spears, 50 Cent and Lady Gaga.  Ron actively designs for Superior Backings, now combined with and housed at TRIO; we’ve created recent backdrops and props for acts including Katy Perry, Poison, Whitesnake, Rise Against, Okkervil River, Hunter Hayes, Rick Ross, Chicago, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Dunn, Tenacious D, Rod Stewart and Andrea Boccelli.

The Strang scenic legacy continues as the next-generation-of-Team-TRIO puts their brush onto the paint frames at TRIO, including a fourth generation of Strangs.  It’s exciting to envision what the future might hold….
